
Civic platform of Macedonia is established on 16th March 2004 by group of civil society organizations, enthusiasts in the country. CPM is open place for reflection, democratic discussion of ideas, formulation of suggestions, free exchange of experiences and networking for efficient and effective action of civil organizations that are dedicated on building civil society in Macedonia.
CPM gathers and connects civil society organizations (and other actors in Macedonian civil society), but do not intends to be body that exclusively represents the Macedonian civil society. Legitimacy of CPM will be result of its capability to strengthen civil society, to deeply root and ensure organization and stability.
CPM is successful example for taking initiatives as non formal network of civil society organizations. CPM serious approach towards challenges that civil society organization face with in Republic of Macedonia, has build the principles of CPM acting, has built structure and procedures that are result of transparency and equal approach towards members of the Platform as well as towards other civil society organizations.
The CPM has its standing bodies. The standing bodies of the CPM are: Council, Committee and Secretariat, as well as other working groups and thematic committees.
The Council is a standing body of the CPM. The Council has a leading role in the process of defining the principles and strategic directions. The Council is composed of 33 members, representatives from civil society organizations as well as individuals dedicated towards building of civil society in Macedonia. The Committee has an executive role and is composed of 14 members.
In the period 2004 – 2006, the Secretariat was coordinated by Macedonian Center for International Cooperation. The initial two year period of coordination was very important for CPM developing, where effective and successful built constructive dialog among CPM members. CPM set clear working principles, structure, effective functioning of CPM bodies. Result of this formulation is the financial support by European Agency for reconstruction for the CPM program 2006 – 2007, that is implemented by the COM members. Equal and serious approach towards every CPM member is election of Center for Civic Initiative for new coordinator of Secretariat in 2006. In the spirit of decentralization, the trust that is given to organization with main office out of Skopje is a proof that CPM is place where every serious and successful civil society organization can give contribution towards building more constructive civil society sector.
Activities defined in the CPM program are directed towards improvement of communication, coordination and collaboration in civil society sector, development of domestic support system (law frame, ethic standards, responsibility and transparency, benefit from civil society organizations, demonstrating results and building reputation); Establishing partner relations with state sector, business sector and international organizations and agencies in Republic of Macedonia for establishing participative democracy and socially responsible sector.
CPM is open to all civil society organizations in Republic of Macedonia. Criteria for membership are: form of organizations, achieved results, financial and human resources, internal organization (active democratic structures, representation, relations with the membership and target groups), relations with other actors, accountability and transparency.
