CIVIC PLATFORM OF MACEDONIA


 

 

CPM was established on March 16, 2004 in Skopje by 31 organizations from different sectors and interests.

Civic Platform of Macedonia (CPM) is open place for reflection, democratic discussion of ideas, formulation of suggestions, free exchange of experiences and networking for efficient and effective action of civil organizations that are dedicated on building civil society in Macedonia.

CPM has pluralistic, diverse, nonreligious, nongovernmental and non-political context that connects in decentralized way the civil organizations that have influence on local, national and international level, aimed to build civil society.  

CPM, as a frame for experience exchange, is initiating the mutual understanding, respect and a dialog among civil society organizations, members of CPM, and emphasizes the experience exchange among them, their communication, coordination and collaboration.

Legitimacy of CPM will be result of its capability to strengthen civil society, to deeply root and ensure organization and stability. CPM gathers and connects civil society organizations (and other actors in Macedonian civil society), but do not intends to be body that exclusively represents the Macedonian civil society. CPM intends to increase the capacity of civil sector and capability for mobilization of civil society that will influence in strengthening of civil and political environment.

CPM will initiate capacity building of civil organizations for mobilization of domestic support to their goals. With mobilization of domestic support and resources, the addiction of international financial sources will be decreased. Platform will stimulate promising environment for domestic mobilization of support and resources.

This means building of identity, reputation and communication with the public that will enhance the confidence. That leads to civil sector that works with highest ethical standards of responsibility and publicity (transparency). That means capability to document the results and benefit from civil organizations. 

CPM has standing and temporary bodies. Permanent bodies are: Council, Committee and Secretariat, as well as other work groups, thematic committees etc. The Council has leading role in the process of defining the principles and strategic directions. The Council is composed of 33 members, representatives from civil society organizations as well as individuals dedicated towards building of civil society in Macedonia. The Committee has an executive role and is composed of 14 members.

CPM is open to all civil society organizations in Republic of Macedonia. Criteria for membership are: form of organizations, achieved results, financial and human resources, internal organization (active democratic structures, representation, relations with the membership and target groups), relations with other actors, accountability and transparency. CPM is financing through membership fee and self-financing of activities. Activities are directed towards:

    • Improvement of communication, coordination and collaboration of civil sector;
    • Determination of the situations, needs and priorities and unification of concepts and approaches in civil society;
    • Development of domestic support system (law frame, ethic standards, responsibility and transparency, benefit of civil society organizations, demonstrating the results and reputation building;
    • Establishing partner relation with public sector, business sector and international organizations and agencies in Republic of Macedonia to establish participative democracy and socially responsible sector;
    • Active participation in international context
